Celebrate National Nanotechnology Day

National Nanotechnology Day is an annual event featuring a series of community-led events and activities on or around October 9th to help raise awareness of nanotechnology, how it is currently used in products that enrich our daily lives, and the challenges and opportunities it holds for the future. This date, 10/9, pays homage to the nanometer scale, 10-9 meters.

The National Nanotechnology Coordination Office (NNCO) is supporting the following events:

  • 100 Billion Nanometer Dash: a challenge to run #100BillionNanometers  (equal to 100 meters), share your pictures and videos, and get added to our online map! Print a Certificate of Achievement and a gold medal for your runners.

  • Nanotechnology Podcasts: NNCO is producing a series of 5-10 minute podcasts that share stories from the NNI to be launched on National Nano Day. (Link coming soon!)

  • Generation Nano: NSF in collaboration with NNCO is launching the next round of the Gen Nano superhero contest for high school student for National Nano Day.

The following NNCI school mascots have pledged to run #100BillionNanometers for NND2017:

  • Tree, Stanford University

  • Touchdown, Cornell University

  • Buzz, Georgia Tech

See what other organizations, including many NNCI sites, are doing for National Nanotechnology Day.

In particular, the RTNN site will be hosting Small Talk: a NanoMaker Live Event

To honor the nanometer, the Research Triangle Nanotechnology Network (RTNN) invites you to participate in our live Q&A sessions on October 10th. Experts will be on call to answer your questions on nano-fabrication and -characterization. We will stream these hour-long sessions online at 8:30 am and 3:30 pm (EDT). Prior to the event, submit questions here. During the live sessions, email questions to rtnanonetwork@ncsu.edu or post questions via Facebook and Twitter (@RTNNsocial). For more information and links to the online sessions, visit RTNN's Nano Day website.
