This lesson explores lab-on-a chip devices which have many applications in biochemical analysis. The students will create a narrow fluidic channel in gelatin, inject dye into the channel, and observe fluid flow. Students will create and test this gelatin microfluidic device. This lab shows the importance of channel design in biotechnology and nanotechnology and the methods used to study the behavior of fluids as they flow through a channel.
